As we leave the cold winter weather behind us and move towards the warmth of spring, it’s not unusual to feel as though you want your wardrobe to wake up from hibernation. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut of classic colors like black, grey and navy blue but with spring approaching it’s time to look for a pop of color.
And luckily, the color trends for 2016 do not disappoint!
A fresh new take on the classic American red, white and blue, True Colors explores those colors but in deeper, richer tones. True Colors made a debut on the runways for the Spring 2016 collections of many iconic American fashion designers.
At Marc Jacobs, the stunning combination of royal blue, powder blue, carnation red and white was present in almost every look the namesake designer sent down the runway. Similarly, at Tommy Hilfiger, the boho-beachy vibe of their collection showcased burgundy tones with rich shades of blue, ranging from a light powder blue to a dark navy blue, that really complemented each other in a new and fun way. As fans of Project Runway might know, Michael Kors designs embody the classic American woman and in his Spring 2016 runway show, he presented dresses and skirts in bright, bold shades of red, white, and blue.

Vivienne Tam debuted her first collection in 1982 and immediately established herself as a quirky contemporary womenswear designer for her ability to fuse her Chinese upbringing with her American experience. In her Spring 2016 collection, she presented a whimsical, colorful celebration of her Chinese heritage by showing tops and dresses emblazoned with funky Chinese dragons in jewel-toned colors of Pool Party’s green and blue. Also pulling inspiration from Pool Party was designer Tracy Reese. Her tops, skirts, dresses and swimwear in lovely shades of blue and green look as though they can all actually be worn to a pool party!
